Food Assistance
CHRC presently serves the emergency food needs of more than 5,000 families per month. Food supplies are primarily purchased from the San Antonio Food Bank at a price of $.15-$.27 per pound. More than 175,000 pounds of food is purchased and processed each month. CHRC also appreciates the generosity of local farmers and grocers. CHRC has long enjoyed a strong partnership with the San Antonio Food Bank. CHRC is the largest single private agency of the San Antonio Food Bank. In the last 12 months, we have distributed the equivalentof $1.8 million in food to struggling families in our community. As the economy has suffered, so have many in our community. This is a scenario that we are seeing with other organizations throughout the state and country.

Mentoring
CHRC offers several different mentoring opportunities for our youth and their families. CHRC has partnered wtih Bexar County Parnters in Youth to serve a select group of youth who are under the supervision of the Bexar County Juvenille Authorities. CHRC also supports the helaing of family relationships through partenting programs and affiliated support groups.
CHRC also offered faith-based programs including Potential SA: a combination of fun and fast-paced facilitated (yet participant led) discussion of current issues, and life skills questions in an informal format. CHRC Mentoring is a more formal mentoring program which requires a year-long committment on the part of both mentees and mentors. The curriculum is based on 40 developmental assets. Space is limited.
Parenting Potential: This program is specifically designed for teenage parents who need more than just parenting assistance or support. It is a combination of organized topical education and participant-led discussion.
