Spotlight on Volunteers
“It brings me satisfaction and enjoyment and gives purpose to my life to know that I can help relieve some of the stress and pressures of life for people in need. That is why I give my time to CHRC.” – Mark Wardian
Mark Wardian was attending service at Oak Hills Church when he heard a man named Dennis speak about his transformational experience of getting out of poverty and back on his feet with the help of CHRC. Impressed by Dennis’ story, Mark came to CHRC to volunteer and help people like Dennis. He loved that CHRC met people’s immediate needs, but instead of just “giving them a fish”, CHRC “taught them to fish.” Not only has he volunteered countless hours over the years, out of the goodness of his heart, Mark built a custom front desk counter from scratch as well as many other beautiful projects. We are so grateful to have such a generous person in our lives like Mark. We can’t thank you enough, Mark!
“I love meeting the clients each month and hearing their stories. The staff are really nice; I love being a part of CHRC.” – Alma Paine
Alma Paine has been volunteering her time and talents to CHRC for the last three years. Alma fell in love with CHRC when she first arrived as a client. Now, she she gives back as a volunteer in the clothing closet and as CHRC’s crochet instructor. “Alma has become our leader among our clothing volunteers and is a constant smile that many clients come to appreciate and look forward to.” says Vilma Pinto, Director of Programs and Partner Relations. Even though she has three daughters and twelve grandchildren, Alma makes time to give back and enjoys helping and socializing with the CHRC clients. Just this year alone, she has worked more than 600 hours. You are an inspiration, Alma!
